Welcome to the Department of Natural Resource Sciences at Washington State University! We are dedicated to advancing natural resource conservation, research, and education in the United States and around the world through our international programs. We offer interdisciplinary degree programs in:
- Natural Resource Science
- Wildlife Ecology
- Areas of Emphasis: (Conservation Biology; Landscape and Restoration Ecology)
The department has extensive education and hands-on research facilities located on our large campus, including facilities in the: Wildlife Habitat Nutrition Laboratory; Steffen Center Research Facility; Endangered Species Lab; Bear Research, Education and Conservation Center; and other greenhouse and outdoor ecological laboratories.
These major campus resources, coupled with a faculty and a greater University community dedicated to teaching and research excellence, have created one of the strongest programs in research and education in natural resource sciences in the western United States.

Buddhist Community Enjoys Healthier Forest, Thanks to WSU Natural Resource Sciences Students
Mark Swanson and his Natural Resource Sciences 419 class teamed up with Sravasti Abbey, a Buddhist monastic community near Newport, Wash., in order to restore the forest surrounding the abbey. The abbey, which owns 240 acres of land, received a USDA Forest Land Enhancement Program (FELP) grant, which helps small forest landowners care for their trees. Read more »
