the Palouse prairie of southeastern Washington. The University is
within a few hour's drive of some of the finest wilderness areas
in North America, and of biomes ranging from alpine to semi-desert.
WSU's colleges include Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering and Architecture, Liberal Arts, Honors, Nursing, Pharmacy, Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine. The Pullman campus covers nearly 600 acres. The University also owns about 3,600 acres of nearby farmland and approximately 3,300 additional research acres.
The University community consists of about 1700 faculty members, 2500 staff, and 17,000 students, including 2100 graduate students. More than 60 percent of WSU's students live in university residences and 23 fraternities and 14 sororities, making WSU one of the nation's largest residential campuses. The University also maintains apartments for married students and family housing units.
A symphony orchestra, a drama theater, Pac-10 athletics, and the Performing Arts coliseum provides a varied array of cultural, social and athletic events.
