Staff & Description of Duties

Christie Alexandre-Zeoli- Secretary Senior - first desk on your right as you enter Johnson Hall Room 115 - the NRS Main Office. General information, FAX machine operation, travel authorities and expense vouchers, issuing keys, Federal Express, central stores orders, Graduate Student Coordinator. Christie is the individual you may have contacted during the application process; she is in the main office and will prepare a mailbox with your name on it which will be located in Johnson Hall, Room 113. This is where incoming campus mail and announcements will be deposited so you must make a habit of checking it on a regular basis.
Dianne Schlott - Fiscal Specialist - Johnson Hall Room 115W - fiscal paperwork related to departmental budgets, Temporary Employment Forms, Payroll, Grant Processing, Purchase Orders and Graduate Student Personnel Action/Appointment Forms.
Rod Clausen - Administrative Manager - Johnson Hall Room 115 - Student Records, Class & Room Scheduling, Faculty Personnel Appointments, Department Brochures & Announcements, Surveys & Reports, Curriculum Coordinator, College Of Agriculture and Home Economics Scholarship & Student Awards.
Mailing (personal & work-related) Outgoing personal mail can be mailed at the drop box on the corner of the street by French Administration. Outgoing personal mail is not to be placed in the department's mailbox, but items related to academic or research may be sent/received using the following address:

Photocopy Accounts and Telephone Calls - Graduate students with research assistantships will obtain authorization codes from the faculty project leader in order to make project/research related copies and telephone calls. Students who are funded as teaching assistants will obtain a copy authorization code from the teaching faculty responsible for the course.
Computer Accounts - You need to give your email address to Rod who maintains a current graduate student e-mail account listing. There is a computer with printer and scanner located in Johnson Hall, Room 130. You will need a key to obtain access into this room. To obtain an e-mail account, proceed to the ITB (Information Technology Building) help desk and you will be able to initiate your account. ITB is located across the street from Johnson Hall, the first building on your right as you head towards to the Compton Union Building (CUB).
Purchase Orders and Travel Authorizations - Fiscal paperwork related to research projects are prepared by Dianne Schlott, Room 115W. If you need lab supplies ordered through central stores, please contact Dianne for the appropriate requisition code. If you are traveling on official WSU related business, a travel authority is required. Travel Authorizations are prepared by Christie. You will need to complete a Travel Request Information Paper (TRIP) form. Blank pink forms are located in the copy room by the mail boxes for your convenience. When properly completed, this gives Margie all the appropriate information required for completion of the travel authority. If you are not sure about certain areas of the form, check with your faculty advisor.
Use of State Property - It is against state law in Washington to use any state-owned property for personal use.
Payment of Tuition and Fees - Tuition is paid by the university for students on teaching and research assistantships. Students not on an assistantship must pay their own tuition. All students must pay fees such as health and parking permit fees. Graduate School Policies and Procedures can be obtained from the Graduate School, French Administration, Room 324.
Federal Express - Federal Express envelopes and packages are sent out through the departmental office. Margie will prepare the necessary labels and shipping requests but you must provide the project budget account number to be charged, name, address (PO Box is not acceptable) and telephone number of recipient and contents of the parcel being shipped. In the event that Margie is out, speak with Rod and he will assist you in processing these forms. Items to be shipped need to be in Johnson 115 before 2 p.m.
FAX machine - Auniversity authorization code is needed to send materials using the fax machine. The fax machine can be used to receive academic or research related material - please ensure that your name is clearly marked on the fax and check with the NRS office to pick up any message that may have been received.
Vacations and Holidays - Students on an RA or TA should consult their faculty advisor about scheduling vacation time.
Parking on Campus - parking permits may be purchased at the Parking Services office in the Safety Building (across from CUB). Green 1 permits, for parking in front of Johnson Hall require years on a waiting list to obtain. The most reasonable parking permit is Yellow 3, which allows parking in the lot between Johnson Hall and Beasley Coliseum.

Review of Natural Resource Sciences Graduate Students
|
The Department reviews all graduate students during the spring semester. A cover memo and the review form will be distributed to all graduate students in early spring. A self-evaluation annual review form is available for you to complete on the web. This form will be sent directly to the Department's Administrative Manager for further processing. This review must be completed by April 1st and written comments will be provided to the student by his/her faculty advisor with assistance from the Graduate Coordinator. This is a university requirement. Elements of the annual review process are outlined on page 17, Graduate School Policies and Procedures.
