David M. Baumgartner, Ph.D., CF (Certified Forester), and Fellow, Society of American Foresters, is Professor and State Extension Forester, Department of Natural Resource Sciences at Washington State University (WSU), Pullman. With a Ph.D. in Forest Management, Policy, and Administration from Michigan State University, he is recognized as a world-wide authority on extension, technology transfer, and continuing education. He has conducted more than 200 symposia and workshops for over 15,000 natural resource management professionals. He has authored or co-authored more than 120 publications and has generated more than $3 million in extramural funding. He has a great deal of experience working internationally, especially in the Russian Federation.

Employment History:
Early work experience included four summers of timber management and forest inventory work on the Willamette National Forest in Oregon. While at Michigan State University, he held positions as graduate teaching assistant, assistant instructor, technician, and research assistant. He started as State Extension Forester and Assistant Professor at Washington State University in 1969, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1974, and Full Professor in 1981. In 1990-91, he was Interim Assistant Director for Agriculture and Natural Resource Extension Programs in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. He has successfully completed periodic US and international consulting assignments.
